Oregon Teacher to Judge Sweet Staches at M4K Portland Stache Bash

For the past month, charitable and increasingly hairy men in Portland have stepped up to the plate and grown mustaches to support classroom projects on, raising around $3,000 so far! The mustache growing season is now drawing to a close, but not before the mac daddy event for all mustache growers and aficionados – the stache bash – where the men of Mustaches for Kids will battle it out for the title of Portland’s Sweetest Stache. This facial hair pageant will take place Thursday, December 18 at Holocene.
One of the trusty judges of these sweetest stache contenders is a Portland teacher who has had his classroom projects funded on – one of these, But We Want Spinach Instead of Chocolate, thanks to the support of the mustache growers! Fred Fox is a third year teacher who teaches 7th grade Social Studies and English. Fred is happy to be an M4K judge and notes that he has “the utmost respect for people who can grow mustaches” as he “tried once and failed miserably.” He prepared for his teaching career by serving for 12 years in the US Army Infantry and believes that inspiring kids to love learning is critical.
There are still serious needs in Fred’s classroom – in fact, 3 desks have broken during his class this school year! Check out his projects currently waiting for funding on
Slow and steady doesn’t always win the race
“Classics” students want to read
Um, my desk just broke
Many thanks to all of the dedicated growers, donors and teachers for making M4K such a success! You can find more information on Mustaches for Kids Portland here.
